Day 1 – Halifax, Nova Scotia
Welcome to Canada’s Atlantic Coast and the Canadian Maritimes, a land blessed with stunning natural beauty and a relaxed way of life. Visit all three of Canada's Maritime Provinces: Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. On arrival, transfer by hotel courtesy shuttle from the Halifax airport. Rooms are available for check-in after 3:00 p.m. Join the Tour Operator for an 8:00 p.m. welcome briefing.
Day 2 – Cape Breton Island
On your journey to Cape Breton Island this morning, visit with the First Nation people of Nova Scotia at the Mi'kmaq heritage center. Learn about their history, legends and present day life. Continue to Cape Breton Island and the Cabot Trail, one of the most beautiful drives in the world. See inspiring mountain and coastal scenery en route to Cheticamp. Enjoy a relaxing two-night stay at this French-speaking Acadian fishing village, in the heart of the Cabot Trail. The fun loving Cape Bretoners are renowned for celebrating with traditional Celtic and Acadian music and dance. Enjoy dinner. BD
Day 3 – Whale Watching
This morning, enjoy a thrilling whale watching cruise (weather permitting). Cape Breton Island's rich waters are the seasonal home to many species of whales. Look for fin, minke, and pilot whales. You may also see dolphins and porpoises. Afternoon drive into the nearby highlands of the Cabot Trail. Enjoy ocean views and possible wildlife sightings, including moose and bald eagles. B
Day 4 – Cabot Trail, Baddeck
A grand adventure awaits you today on the Cabot Trail. Drive through forests, mountains and valleys in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Breathtaking ocean scenery unfolds as you follow the trail from Pleasant Bay to Cape Smokey. See rugged cliffs and wonderful ocean views. Then to Baddeck to visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, dedicated to the inventor of the telephone. Bell once said, "I have traveled around the globe ... and for simple beauty, Cape Breton Island outrivals them all." Bell made his home here. Stay a relaxing two nights in the resort town of Baddeck on Cape Breton Island. Dinner tonight. (B, D)
Day 5 – Fortress of Louisbourg
Morning visit to the crown jewel of the Canadian Park Service, the Fortress of Louisbourg. Enjoy a fun stroll through this 18th century fortress as actors bring to life colorful characters and events from Louisbourg's glorious past (limited services in October). Return to the charming town of Baddeck. Your afternoon is at leisure. B
Day 6 – Prince Edward Island
Travel south this morning to mainland Nova Scotia and board a short ferry to the picturesque province of Prince Edward Island. Pass over gently rolling farmlands en route to Prince Edward Island National Seashore. Enjoy vistas of red sand beaches and bluffs. Watch for red fox and great blue heron. Enjoy a relaxing two night stay at your nearby country inn. Dinner tonight. (B, D)
Day 7 – Prince Edward Island
This morning enter the magical and enchanting world of Anne of Green Gables. Visit the Anne of Green Gables House in Cavendish. Stroll through Lover's Lane and other settings from the literary classic. Mark Twain called the novel "the sweetest creation of child life yet written." This afternoon, join the Tour Operator for a brief sightseeing tour of Charlottetown followed by leisure time in the downtown. B
Day 8 – New Brunswick, Bay of Fundy
Travel over the 8 mile long Confederation Bridge this morning to the province of New Brunswick. See New Brunswick's most famous geological feature, the Flowerpot Rocks at Hopewell Cape. Observe the gradual rise or fall of the Bay of Fundy tides, an average change of 6 to 8 feet per hour. The Fundy Tides are the highest on earth and rise and fall an astounding 50 feet. Twice each day one-hundred-billion tons of water flow into the Bay of Fundy. This creates the phenomenal Fundy Tides, which overpower the rivers flowing into the Fay of Fundy and reverse their direction two times a day. Next, to the lively oceanfront town of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Enjoy a relaxing two night stay at your ideally located waterfront hotel. B
Day 9 – Peggy's Cove, Halifax
Morning visit to the idyllic fishing village and artists' retreat of Peggy's Cove. Photo stop at the classic red and white lighthouse. Then, enjoy a sightseeing drive of Halifax, including a visit to the 17th century fort, Citadel Hill. Afternoon at leisure in Halifax to explore the many fun attractions within walking distance of your hotel. Enjoy dinner. BD
Day 10 – Halifax

Enter Portugal and arrive in Coimbra, a charming hillside town that overlooks the Mondego River. Visit the Batalha Monastery, the Sanctuary of Fatima, and arrive in explorer Henry the Navigator’s exquisite city of Lisbon. Spend two nights in spectacular Seville before boarding a ferry for Morocco. As you arrive on the African continent, motor to the old walled city of Fez for two overnights. Visit a traditional medina on the included sightseeing tour. Next, head through the Middle Atlas mountain range to Marrakesh, known for its colorful Djemaa el Fna, a square bustling with acrobats, storytellers, dancers, singers, and food stalls. See Casablanca, then Rabat, capital of the Kingdom of Morocco. Re-cross the Strait of Gibraltar and return to mainland Spain. Drive through the Andalusian countryside to Granada for a treat: a visit to the exotic Alhambra complex, residence of Moorish kings. Retrace Don Quixote’s footsteps as you travel past the windmills and castles of La Mancha, then return to Madrid for the conclusion of your exciting journey.
Day 1: ARRIVE IN MADRID, SPAIN
Check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free to start exploring lively Madrid. Tonight, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers. (Dinner)
Day 2: MADRID
Of the Spanish capital, situated 2,180 feet above sea level, the Spaniards say it’s the nearest thing to heaven. You’ve only a day here and it’s certainly worth making the most of it by joining the included guided sightseeing tour: a full panoramic drive by way of the Avenida Mayor, Puerta del Sol, Parliament Square, and a picture stop outside the Royal Palace. The optional trip to Toledo is most rewarding, too. The splendid setting of this old walled city above the Tagus was made famous in El Greco’s painting, and even now it’s like a great open-air museum of Spanish history and art. (Breakfast)
Day 3: MADRID–AVILA–SALAMANCA–COIMBRA, PORTUGAL
West for a visit to fortified Avila with its many towers. Next is Salamanca, just six miles from the spot where Wellington routed Napoleon’s army in 1812. Make sure you spend some time wandering around Plaza Mayor, the grandest square in Spain. Across the frontier to Guarda, the highest town in Portugal. From here, descend to the valleys of the Serra da Estrela to Coimbra for an overnight. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 4: COIMBRA–BATALHA–FATIMA–LISBON
This morning, enjoy your orientation tour of Coimbra, celebrated for its beauty and ancient university. Later, travel southwards to Batalha with a visit to its beautifully sited monastery. Today’s penultimate highlight is a visit to the Sanctuary of Fatima. A sterner and more desolate landscape accompanies you to Lisbon for your overnight in Portugal’s capital. A stop en route includes a wine bodega and some wine tasting. (Breakfast)
Day 5: LISBON
Henry the Navigator made Lisbon the 15th-century mistress of the seas. On the included tour, see his monument, the Belem Tower, the Moorish Citadel, and the impressive Black Horse Square. Spend the afternoon in the Alfama’s tile-decorated streets, or take an optional excursion to coastal Estoril and Cascais. (Breakfast)
Day 6: LISBON–SEVILLE, SPAIN
From the rolling plains of the Alentejo with its woodlands of cork and eucalyptus trees, southwards all the way to the brilliant light of Andalucia. Admire its neat white-painted villages and sun-drenched plantations of olives, figs, and almonds, while traveling by way of Beja into magnificent Seville. (Breakfast)
Day 7: SEVILLE
At leisure in one of Spain’s most colorful cities. Perhaps you’d like to spend this morning enjoying an optional sightseeing tour including the main highlights of this vibrant city. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 8: SEVILLE–FERRY TO MOROCCO–FEZ
An interesting drive today starts with views of the sherry wine region before reaching the coast for embarkation on the ferry to Morocco. Next, motor south along what was once northern Africa’s infamous Barbary Coast. Join the new motorway for the drive southwards, then west, bypassing Meknes for two overnights in Fez. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 9: FEZ
At leisure in ancient Fez, which occupies a position of outstanding scenic beauty. This morning, visit the Medina on the included sightseeing and enjoy the maze of narrow streets through the colourful bazaars and the exotic atmosphere. (Breakfast)
Day 10: FEZ–MIDDLE ATLAS–MARRAKESH
While motoring through the Middle Atlas on your way to Marrakesh, enjoy glimpses of North African village life reminiscent of Beau Geste. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 11: MARRAKESH
The highlight of this morning is the included city sightseeing. You’ll really feel as if you’ve stopped the march of time. Marrakesh has always been a meeting place—first just a group of nomad tents, now a bustling city. An optional evening excursion will be a fitting choice to end the day. (Breakfast)
Day 12: MARRAKESH–CASABLANCA–RABAT
This morning, drive northwest from the heartland of Morocco by way of Settat to reach the most western of all Moroccan cities—Casablanca. Stop here awhile. Later in the afternoon, continue by way of the motorway northwards to Rabat, Morocco’s capital for city sightseeing and an overnight. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 13: RABAT–FERRY CROSSING TO SPAIN–GRANADA
Today an early departure retraces your steps northwards for the ferry across the Straits of Gibraltar to mainland Spain, and drive directly to the heart of Andalucia to reach Granada for an overnight. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day 14: GRANADA–MADRID
Take advantage of the included visit with a Local Guide of the Alhambra, a summer complex built by the Moorish kings. This afternoon, drive into the very heart of La Mancha, famed for its castle and windmills. Overnight in Madrid. (Breakfast)
Day 15: MADRID
Your vacation ends with breakfast this morning. (Breakfast)
