This tour takes us on an amazing journey from Northern Laos all the way to the Capital city of Vientiane.You will tour through many wonderful towns and Ethnic Minority villages including Khmu , Akha ,Hmong , Yao , Tai Dam , Lenetene etc... , explore magical caves and ancient temples , trekking through breathtaking mountainous landscapes and tropical jungles , cruise and experience life along Nam Ou river until reaching the world heritage city of Luangprabang , with its wonderful temples and Stupa's and finally the Capital of Vientiane with its magnificent Golden That Luang stupa and Mystical Buddha Park .

DAY 1: ARRIVAL – HOUIXAI – LUANG NAMTHA (B)
After arriving at Houixai, we travel 195km to Luang Namtha.Home to a variety of ethnic minorities it borders with Myanmar on the west across the Mekong River, and China in the North. The mountainous and scenic province is pleasantly cool all year round and is a great place for eco – tourism and trekking.Along the way we’ll be visiting caves in Vieng Phouka and a Khmu village. Overnight staying will in Luang Namtha at the Boat Landing Lodge or somewhere similar.
DAY 2: LUANG NAMTHA – TREKKING –MUANG SING (B, L)
After a hearty breakfast we set off to trek for 5-6 hours in the Nam Ha National Protected Area. Ranging from the lowlands of the Luang Namtha Plain to 2000m peaks in its Northern Highlands. The park supports a wide amount of flora and fauna including forests, streams and rivers also many large animals such as Clouded Leopard, Tigers and Bears and a small population of Asian Elephants. We trek through many minority ethnic villages including Tai Yuan, Kalum, Tai Daeng and Hmong. Then transfer back for an overnight stay in Muang Sing.
DAY 3: MUANG SING – TREKKING (B, L)
After breakfast we visit Muang Sing Market, where many minority ethnic groups converge from the surrounding valleys and hillsides to sell their goods and buy provision’s. Before heading out of town to a small village of Alima, next to the border with China. From here we start a half day trek through the breathtaking mountainous landscape to visit the tribal villages of the Yao, Akha, Tai Lu and Lanten people. We then make our way back for another nights stay in Muang Sing.
DAY 4: MUANG SING – OUDOMXAY (B)
Today we’ll make our way on a long drive from Muang Sing to Oudomxay, driving through spectacular landscapes with a mixture of terraced fields and rustic villages. Along the way we’ll visit Chiang Tung Stupa, this golden stupa is situated on a large hill rising up out of the rice paddies. It was built in the same style as Vientiane’s famous That Luang and is said to contain Buddha’s Adam ’s apple and we’ll go to see the Ikor village of Ban Lakkham Mai among others before arriving in Oudomxay where we will stay overnight.
DAY 5: OUDOMXAY – BOUNTAI (B)
After breakfast today we take a look at the local market, which attracts a colourful and friendly variety of ethnic minority groups including the Akha, Tai Dam, Khmu and Hmong to name a few. We’ll then drive to the sleepy town of Muang La with it’s beautiful mountains surrounding. Famous for the Pra Sengham Temple with its sacred Buddha’s image. This 400 year old statue is said to have many supernatural powers and is widely worshipped. We’ll have lunch at the Akha and Khmu village of Ban Pak Nam Noi and continue until we reach the thriving little market town of Boun Tai.Where we’ll stay overnight.
DAY 6: BOUNTAI – BAN YO -PHONGSALI
After breakfast today we continue venturing into Northern Laos with the next stop being Phonsali. This province being one of the most remote in Laos is dominated by rugged mountainous terrain with thick forests and fast flowing rivers, sharing borders with China and Vietnam. On route we visit the village of Ban Yo, An Iko ethnic group originally called Akha or “older brother” in Lao. The women are skilled in weaving, knitting and ornamental sewing, while the men are excellent woodcrafters. We then travel to Ban Km 35 where the villagers are breeding bee’s and distilling rice wine. We finish our day in Phongsali where we walk the steps to the top of Phou Fa Mountain. The scenery from the peak of the mountain is breathtaking, allowing for magical views of Phongsali and its surrounds. Finally staying in this beautiful little town overnight.
DAY 7: PHONGSALI – HATSA - MUANG KHOA – NONG KHIAW
After breakfast we drive 22km to the river town of Hatsa where we’ll board a traditional boat and cruise on the Nam Ou river all the way to Nong Khaiw. Along the way visiting villages and experiencing the daily activities of people along the river. The cruise is long but is well worth it. Nong Khaiw is a rustic little town on the banks of the Nam Ou river. It’s squeezed between some of the most fantastic limestone mountains to be found in Northern Laos. We’ll spend the night in Nong Khaiw at the riverside guesthouse or similar accomodation.
DAY 8: NONG KHIAW – LUANG PRABANG (B)
Breakfast then we’re back on the boat to continue our cruise along the Nam Ou river. We make our way along this beautiful river and again experience the many river communities going about they’re daily routines. You’ll have many photo opportunities along the way with spectacular scenery everywhere around you. We get to see the magnificent spectacle of Pak Ou cave’s. In the side of a lime stone cliff and opposite of the mouth of the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers. The sanctuaries at Pak Ou consist of two large caves, both repositories for thousands of Buddha images, which range from mere centimetres to two metres in height. En route, typical Laotian villages are barely visible behind a screen of foliage. Slender canoes bobbing by the shore and bamboo poles and floats mark the location of nets and fish traps. We stop at the village of Ban Xang Hai (the jar-maker village) which was the traditional industry of the village in the past. These days the villagers source the jars from elsewhere and fill them with Lao Lao (rice whiskey) that they brew here. You can sample this fire water if you like ! On return, we take a short drive to Ban Phanom. Here we can watch the local village women hand weaving in traditional style. Finally making our way to the World Heritage listed former capital of Luang Prabang where we stay tonight.
DAY 9: LUANG PRABANG (B)
The tranquility and charm of Luang Prabang with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights make it one of the most delightful places to visit in Laos. Today’s tour include’s Wat Visoun, the 16th century temple that serves as a small museum for religious artifacts; Wat Xiengthong, the 16th century temple one of the most beautiful temple’s in Laos, epitomizing all the elegance and grace of Luang Prabang architecture.We’ll see the shrine of Wat Aham and Wat Mai. Finally climbing up 328 steps to the summit of Phousi Hill which dominates the sky-line of Luang Prabang to witness its sacred Guilded Stupa also providing the finest panoramic view in the entire city and surrounding area. Again spending the night in Luang Prabang.
DAY 10: LUANG PRABANG – VIENTIANE (B)
After breakfast we start with a visit to the National Museum , the former Royal Palace housing a collection of valuables including the famous Prabang Buddha statue and gifts from foreign dignitaries. You can then enjoy some free time for your own exploration of the city and shopping area’s. In the early afternoon we will board our flight to Vientiane. Afterwhich we then go a little way out of town to Buddha Park, a blend of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures created by a mystical monk on a parkland located by the Mekong River we’ll then take a look at the impressive Friendship Bridge, opened April 8,1994 it was the first bridge across the lower Mekong. At a cost of US $30 million it was funded by the Australian government as a development aid to Laos. A view of the spectacular sunset over the Mekong River is the perfect way to finish the day. Staying overnight in Vientiane.
DAY 11: VIENTIANE (B)
After breakfast today we take a tour of the city visiting the major sights of the capital including Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple which was built in 1818 and houses thousands of Buddha statues and the Ho Prakeo museum, the former royal temple that was previously home to the famous Emerald Buddha, which is now residing in Bangkok. Then we’re off to That Luang, the golden Buddist Stupa is the most famous landmark in Vientiane. It was constructed in 1566 by King Setthatirat and restored in 1935. It is generally regarded as the most important national monument in Laos and a national symbol. Afterwards we’ll head to Patouxai “the victory gate”. Constructed in 1958 its architecture is inspired by the Arc de Triumph in Paris, from the top on a clear day you’ll get a great view of Vientiane City. An afternoon tour of the national museum with its artifacts and historical evidence dating back to the dinosaurs and a visit to the major shopping complex of Talad Sao Market to finish our day. Staying overnight in Vientiane.
DAY 12: VIENTIANE – DEPARTURE (B)
After breakfast you’ll have free time before transferring to Wattay Airport for your departure.
