DAY 1: JOHANNESBURG – MOOLMANSHOEK
0730 hrs: Pick-up from your hotel. Travel through countryside with a diversity of fauna and flora to our destination, Moolmanshoek Private Game Reserve, situated in the eastern Free State Province. We are now within viewing distance of “Visierskerf” (2407m), third highest mountain range in South Africa. Dinner, bed and breakfast in a well designed sandstone lodge.
DAY 2: MOOLMANSHOEK
Today we explore the breathtaking Moolmanshoek valley with mountains surrounding us. One can do it on foot, on horseback or with a horse cart. It is home to a variety of Plains Game indigenous to the area like Springbuck, Black wildebeest, Blesbuck, Zebra, Ostrich and many others. More than 200 South African and Arab horses are born and bred on this farm.
DAY 3: MOOLMANSHOEK – LESOTHO
After breakfast, cross the Lesotho border ar Ficksburg. Drive along the winding roads, admiring the mountains and valleys of Lesotho, the Mountain Kingdom of Africa. We are ascending to over 3000 m above sea level. Our destination is the magnificent Katse Dam on a mountain pass that we guarantee will take your breath away. We do a tour into the dam wall which is 60 m thick and 185 m high. This is the highest dam wall in Africa. Overnight at the Orion Katse Lodge on a dinner and breakfast basis.
DAY 4: LESOTHO – DRAKENSBERG SUN
We re-enter South Africa and travel to the Golden Gate National Park with it’s famous rock formations and then on via the Oliviershoek Pass to Bergville and Winterton. Enjoy the breathtaking Drakensberg Mountains to your overnight destination in the Northern Berg. Overnight Drakensberg Sun or similar.
DAY 5: DRAKENSBERG SUN – HIMEVILLE
Enjoy a morning activity of your own interest before we depart for the Southern Berg. The differences in fauna and flora are very interesting along the way. We are heading for the quaint village of Himeville where we overnight at the Himeville Arms Hotel. Dinner and breakfast included.
DAY 6: DEPARTURE
Depart for Durban after breakfast. Passing through the rolling hills of Kwa Zulu Natal, through Ixopo and uMzinto, to reach Durban later in the day. Drop off at your hotel or King Shaka International Airport.
