An opportunity to enjoy food, wine and elephants, lions, buffalo, rhino, leopard and many other animals on private game reserves. The Garden Route is world renowned for its beautiful beaches, forests and romantic restaurants. An ideal honymoon destination. We do not forget all the normal tourist destinations, but have added the southernmost point of Africa and also the place where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet, Cape Agulhas, on this tour.
Vacation Activities Information
DAY 1 & 2: PORT ELIZABETH - LALIBELA (90 km)

You will be picked up at Port Elizabeth International Airport and transferred to Lalibela Game Reserve, about 90 km from Port Elizabeth where you will stay for 2 nights.

After high tea you will be taken on a game drive in search of the Big Five. This will last until the evening when you will have dinner and be entertained by African dancers with song, dance and a drumming session. Dinner is a safari cuisine menu with interesting ideas from the chefs and excellent complimentary wines.

The next day will be an early breakfast, morning game drive, brunch and afternoon game drive. A complete different dinner will awaits you.

DAY 3: LALIBELA – PHANTOM FOREST (250KM)

After breakfast you will be picked up by your special AFRICAN WANDERER TOURS & SAFARI driver and guide who will accompany you for the rest of your tour. We travel the well known Garden Route with spectacular scenery, gorges, bridges and forests, including the magnificent “Big Tree” and Storms River Bridge to the Phantom Forest Eco Reserve, far from the maddening crowd. We overnight in tree suites with a stunning sensuous forest bathroom! Dinner is a North African experience with a taste of Moroccan and excellent wines.

DAY 4: PHANTOM FOREST - OUDSHOORN (200 km)

Our destination today is the 4 star De Zeekoe Guest Farm near Oudshoorn. This is a working ostrich and alfalfa farm on the banks of the Elephant River

De Zeekoe is also home to the Meerkat Magic Project. Wild meerkats/suricates occur naturally on the farm and if you are interested, an optional tour can be arranged. This tour is early in the morning and can be done the next day.

We visit the world famous Cango Caves with a specialist guide. No crawling! Next is a spectacular gorge named Meiringspoort. Soaring cliffs and unusual rock formations will make this detour one of your highligts of your South African holiday.

Dinner is local farm cuisine with Oudshoorn wines.

DAY 5: OUDSHOORN – BOTLIERSKOP (230 km)

We cross the Outeniqua Mountains to Mossel Bay where we explore the 500 year old Post Office Tree, where sailors in the old days left post for homebound ships in an old shoe. There is also a seashell museum. Our next stop is Botlierskop Private Game Reserve, not far from Mossel Bay, where we are going to stay for the next two nights. At 15:00 you depart on a game drive in an open bush vehicle, accompanied by your own game ranger. Dinner tonight is prepared by their award winning bush chef. A comprehensive wine list is available.

DAY 6: BOTLIERSKOP (20 km)

Your day will be thrilled by a morning and afternoon game drive and an extraordinary high tea with elephants as guests. A river cruise late afternoon as well as another high standard dinner accompanied with good wine will end the day.

DAY 7: BOTLIERSKOP – NUY VALLEY (130 km)

After breakfast we depart on a route that wind through scenic farms and vineyards to the Nuy Valley. We check in at the Nuy Valley Guest Farm, a working wine farm and cellar situated in one of the most beautiful valleys in the Cape winelands. Owned and managed by the Conradie family since the early 1900’s, this guest farm has a personal touch and offers warm hospitality, something that is sometimes missing at some more luxurious venues. Wine tasting at the Conradie Boutique Wine cellar is a must to get your special bottle of wine for tonight’s home cooking dinner.

DAY 8: NUY VALLEY – CAPE AGULHAS (230 km)

Depart for L’Agulhas. Cape Agulhas is the southernmost tip of the African continent. A cairn was erected to mark the exact location. It is also the point where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. Overnight stay is at the Agulhas Country Lodge, perched on a hill that overlooks the meeting place of the oceans. Their restaurant serves gourmet local cuisine, specialising in fresh fish. This property is part of the Good Cooks and their Country Houses association, hand picked for its high standard of personal service and passion for good food and wine.

DAY 9: CAPE AGULHAS – ZEVENWACHT (200 km)

We take an off the beaten track road that leads to Montagu, well known for its sweet muskadel wines. We are now on Route 62, an area of magnificent landscapes and towering cliffs, crystal clear streams and the abundance of trees and flora. This route is claimed to be the longest wine route in the world. Along the way we stop at Riet River Co-op Cellars to taste muskadel. Our destination is near Stellenbosch at Zevenwacht, a wine farm set in the heart of picturesque vineyards. www.zevenwacht.co.za
Dinner tonight is in the 19th century Manor House and is prepared by the Zevenwacht Professional Chef School. Zevenwacht wines are available.

DAY 10: ZEVENWACHT – CAPE TOWN (120 km)

Depart for a tour of the Cape Winelands. This tour winds through the fertile valleys of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschoek. Our first stop is the historical town of Stellenbosch, second oldest town in South Africa. We do a tour of the town and stop at Uncle Samie’s shop where nostalgic goods of days long ago, are still being sold. Next is Franschoek or the”French Corner” where French Huguenots settled during 1688 and brought with them exciting wine making skills. We taste wine at Boschendal with lunch under the trees at this well known wine estate. On our way to Paarl we turn off at Wilderers Distillery where German born Helmut Wilderer, master distiller and winner of many international awards, produces scnapps, grappa, aprikose and obstler. Naturally, we have to taste the products!

Next is the town of Paarl, head office to the largest wine company in South Africa, the KWV. We do a cellar tour and taste magnificent wines. We depart for Cape Town where we check in at The Best Western Cape Suites Hotel, (Four Star) where you will stay for the next three nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

DAY 11: CAPE TOWN (30 km)

We do a city tour to introduce you to the Mother City which includes a visit to the old slave quarters of the Bo Kaap and the pulsating Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.. A cable car ride up Table Mountain for sunset cocktails is a possibility, weather permitting. Please note that the cable car tickets are not included in the costing.

Dinner tonight is at the Gold of Africa Museum. The Gold Restaurant is a vibrant Pan African experience in the heart of Cape Town. It will be an evening of opulent feasting, live entertainment and a drumming experience where you will be part of an interactive drum circle. The cuisine is Cape Malay with traditional African inspired dishes. An excellent wine list of award winning Cape wines is available.

DAY 12: CAPE TOWN (80 km)

Today, explore the fairest Cape in the world. This nature tour will present you with scenic beauty offering unparalleled photo opportunities.

Enjoy the coastal drive via Clifton and Camps Bay to Hout Bay for a boat cruise to Seal Island. Next, marvel at the newly opened Chapmans Peak pass to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Stunning prospects of both sides of the Peninsula can be seen from the Cape Point promontory. Boulders Beach, Simons Town, is home to a large breeding colony of Jackass penguins. Return to your hotel.

Dinner tonight is at Emily’s Restaurant at the Waterfront. Peter Veldsman, author of 14 cookery books and winner of the 2004 Top Cape Town Restaurant award, is the owner of Emily’s. The cuisine is Premier South African with an unequalled wine list of more than 1,000 items.

Transfer back to your hotel.

DAY 13: CAPE TOWN – (50 KM)

After breakfast we visit the fertile Constantia Valley, home to the oldest wine estate in South Africa. In 1685 governor Simon van der Stel cultivated and developed Groot Constantia’s rich soil at the foothills of Table Mountain personally. Since then the estate has enjoyed an uninterrupted tradition of wine making, both red and white wines. The original manor house is a fine example of Cape Dutch architecture and display interesting items from the early years in wine making. Our main meal of the day will be lunch in the Jonkershuis Restaurant at Groot Constantia, accompanied by the estate’s own wine. The menu consists of excellent prepared traditional South African dishes.

Our next stop is a walk through the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, recocnized as one of the world’s most respected botanical enterprises. Represented are an impressive collection of South Africa’s floral and plant species, including our national Protea.

Dinner tonight, if you feel like it, is for your own account at a restaurant at the Waterfront. Return to your hotel.

DAY 14: CAPE TOWN – HOME

Transfer to Cape Town International Airport for your flight home!
