Engage in environmental research and protection projects in this unique Educational travel. In this unique educational tour students and teachers will be able to collaborate and engage in environmental research and protection projects. These include census, identification, theoretical and practical classes, as well as learning about the archaeological sites of the ancient Maya in the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico.

Vacation Activities Information |

Day 1 Pick up at the airport and transfer to Ojo de Agua Hotel in Puerto Morelos
Dinner at the hotel and introduction to the activities, explanation of the security measurements and presentation of other important information.
Day 2 Educational Travel
07:30 hrs: Breakfast at the hotel.
08:30 hrs: Departure to the crocodile farm. Only one in the area. Information will on crocodiles, deer, spider monkeys, iguanas, snakes and other animals of the region.
11:00 hrs: Snorkel the amazing coral reef of Puerto Morelos practising a census on either coral reef fish, corals, plants, crustaceans or others.
13:00 hrs: Lunch at the hotel.
16:00 hrs: Visit the botanical garden where the local Biologist Silvia Diaz will introduce you, the the teachers and students, to trees and plants of the Mayan jungle. This includes a very interesting section on medicinal plants of the Mayas.
19:00 hrs: Dinner will in Posada Amor restaurant.
Day 3 Eco Educational Tour
08:00 hrs: Breakfast at the hotel.
10:00 hrs: Visit to the Xaman Ha aviary where we can observe birds of the Yucatan peninsula. These are for example: flamingos, toucans, egrets, parrots, etc. An explanation on their life cycle will be given.
12:00 hrs: Snorkelling in the blue Cenote. We will outline the phenomenon of these underground rivers and the origin of the Yucatan peninsula.
13:30 hrs: Lunch at Don Cafeto Restaurant in Tulum.
16:00 hrs: Visit to the archaeological site of Tulum. The tour will be guided by a local.
18:00 hrs: Visit the ecological center of Akumal. Here, we will receive a presentation on different research and protection projects they are handling; specially, the marine turtle project and coral reef project.
20:00 hrs: Night trekking in search for marine turtles laying eggs at the beach (May - September).
Day 4 Educational Travel
07:00 hrs: Breakfast at the hotel and presentation on the Sian Ka ´an Biosphere Reserve (projects, research, protection, etc.).
10:00 hrs: Arrival at and check at San Juan Ranch, an exclusive ranch inside Sian ka ´an reserve.
11:00 hrs: Snorkel the unique coral reefs of the reserve. We will do census, identification of corals, coral reef fish, plants, etc. and we are going to comparison those to the species of the reef of Puerto Morelos.
13:00 hrs: Lunch at the Ranch.
16:00 hrs: Boat trip through the wetlands of the Sian Ka ´an Biosphere Reserve. Here, we will engange in identification and census on birds.
19:00 hrs: Dinner at the Ranch.
22:00 hrs: Fireplace at the beach to observe stars or to go for a night walk in search for marine turtles laying eggs (May - Sept.).
Day 5 Educational Tour
06:00 hrs: Kayaking in the wetlands and their channels in the Sian Ka ´an Biosphere Reserve in order to do bird identification.
08:00 hrs: Breakfast at the San Juan Ranch.
09:00 hrs: Beach clean up. Explanation on beach pollution, plastics, etc.
11:00 hrs: Snorkelling the unspoiled reefs of the reserve. Identification, census of corals, fish, plants, etc.
13:00 hrs: Lunch in Tulum.
15:00 hrs: Visit of the archaeological site of Tulum.
18:00 hrs: Departure to Valladolid.
19:00 hrs: Arrival at-and check in at Hotel Maria de la Luz in Valladolid.
19:30 hrs: Dinner at the hotel and presentation on Yum Balam Biosphere Reserve.
Day 6 Eco Educational Travel
07:30 hrs: Breakfast at the hotel.
08:30 hrs: Departure to Holbox island.
11:30 hrs: Arrival. Bird and marine mammals identification (flamingos, dolphins, egrets, herons, cormorans, pelicans, etc.)
13:30 hrs: Lunch at Villas Delfines hotel.
15:30 hrs: Searching for dolphins in the Yalahau lagoon.
17:30 hrs: Return to the hotel.
19:00 hrs: Dinner at the hotel.
Day 7 Educational Travel
7:00 hrs: Breakfast at the hotel.
8:00 hrs: Visit the most famous archaeological site, "Chichen Itza", of the ancient Mayas when it is not yet crowded. Tour will by a local guide.
11:00 hrs: Visit Dzitnup cenote. Explanation about and comparison between the underground rivers of the Yucatan peninsula.
13:00 hrs: Lunch at Plaza Maya restaurant in Valladolid.
14:30 hrs: Departure to the ecological reserve, El Eden.
18:00 hrs. : Arrival at the reserve. Explanation on the different research, protection and conservation projects been done in the reserve.
19:00 hrs: Dinner in the reserve.
21:00 hrs: Night trekking through the jungle to discover animals and the sounds of the jungle when it is dark. Samples are taken, depending on the projects been conducted at that moment.
Day 8 Educational Travel
08:00 hrs: Breakfast at the reserve.
09:00 hrs: Trekking through the savanna and the jungle of the reserve to a cenote. There are wild crocodiles living and nesting in this area. Lecture on crocodiles. On the way: bird identification, checking footprints, etc.
13:00 hrs: Snack at the cenote.
17:00 hrs: Analysis of all the information gathered during the Eco-Tour.
19:00 hrs: Dinner at the reserve and presentations.
Day 9 Departure
Breakfast at the reserve and departure to the airport.
