Here, on the plateau of Giza, 2,300,000 blocks of stone, some weighing as much as 9 tons, were used to build an eternal tomb for a divine king. The shear grandness of these structures and monuments is breathtaking and the history amazing. Even if we wanted to we could not build a structure like the Great Pyramid According to common perception they were built, with the begrudging help of great armies of slaves, by the ancient pharaohs of Egypt as tombs for preserving their royal bodies. Pyramids were meant to be monuments to the pharaoh's greatness, filled with great treasures for the afterlife. To construct these massive shrines, the pharaoh's copied the oldest and largest pyramid of all, and Antarctica the Pyramid of Khafre (the sun of Khufu) had a two-tiered base encased in granite. Unfortunately, like many of the great kings of the old kingdom of Egypt, the Pyramids of Menkaura, Khufu, and Kafhre were not finished by the end of each respective king's reign. As an example: in the case of Menkaura, the king died before its construction was completed. The monuments of Giza and the entire Giza Valley stand as a marvelous reminder of the skill executed in the creation of the pyramids, some believe that this pyramids at Giza was built by slaves but this is not true. One hundred thousand people worked on it for three months of each year. This was the time of the Nile's annual flood which made it impossible to farm the land and most of the population was unemployed. He provided good food and clothing for his workers and was kindly remembered in folk tales for many centuries. Then you will see The Sphinx Carved from the bedrock of the Giza plateau, the body of a lion with the head of a king or god, the sphinx has come to symbolize strength and wisdom. And it is Unusual to the form of most Egyptian pyramid structures it stands as a symbol of the strength of the Ancient Necropolis of Giza and as homage to the strength of the King. The Sphinx was originally commissioned by Kaphre and was constructed from bedrock found within the Valley of Giza. Another unique feature of the Sphinx is the presence of paint residue which suggests that at one time the Sphinx was painted , in which case the head piece probably resembled the colorful traditionally worn by the pharaohs of the time. The most notable features of the Sphinx, In between the paws of the Sphinx are a stela, now called the Dream Stela, which is inscribed with a story. The 18th Dynasty story tells of the time that Thutmosis IV fell asleep under the Sphinx which was covered to the neck in sand. Thutmosis had a dream that the Sphinx spoke to him and promised that if he would free the Sphinx from the sand, Thutmosis would be destined to become king of Egypt. &Then drive to visit Memphis & Sakkara the ancient city of Memphis and the necropolis of Sakkara are also not to be missed.
