Vacation Activities Highlight
A ten day tour that takes in some of the attractions of Phnom Penh before setting out up the Mekong River. We visit cultural and natural sites along the river before heading to the mountains on the Thai border where an ancient temple is perched 500 meters above the Cambodian forest. Along the way we visit schools, orphanages, temples, see rare wildlife and we'll give away 10% of the tour proceeds to worthy causes. You'll see where the last of the Khmer Rouge evaded capture after their defeat by the Vietnamese, intricate carvings in the stones on the bottom of a river, and finally the temples of Angkor. Travel on small, easy to ride motorbikes or if you'd prefer in our air conditioned minibus. The pace is relaxed, there's plenty of time to stop and take photos. Away from the cities and highways, Cambodia is caught in a time warp. There are some very special and unique photo opportunities - grab them while you can. Paleriders – Cambodia is a family operated tour business. Tour sizes are kept small and can be quite flexible, so it’s more like a group of friends travelling together than an organised tour.
Vacation Activities Detail Information
Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Phnom Penh. Travel by tuk tuk to the hotel, check-in and have free time until we meet and greet in the evening. After dinner, sightseeing tour of Phnom Penh by tuk-tuk (dinner, hotel room and tuk-tuk hire included).

Day 2 – Visit Choeng Ek Killing Field Museum, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, markets, NACOPCA Orphanage (all meals, hotel room, entry fees, guides, bottled water and tuk-tuk hire included).

Day 3 - Travel to Kampong Cham in the support vehicle, a trip of 2 – 3 hours. On arrival, check into the hotel, have lunch then a familiarization session on the bikes. In the afternoon we will visit an orphanage, Wat Nokor Temple and Phnom Srey Temple. If you haven’t seen wild monkeys before you should see some here (all meals, hotel room, entry fees, bottled water, bikes, fuel and car hire included).

Day 4 – A lovely 20 km ride upriver from Kampong Cham will bring us to Han Chey Mountain, another hilltop temple. You should see some gibbons here. From there the road is dirt, following the river until we reach a ferry crossing. There’s a fair bit of dirt on the other side of the river, as we travel through some Cham (Muslim) villages towards our destination, Kratie. We’ll stop along the road for lunch, and should arrive mid afternoon giving you a couple of hours to rest, or browse through the markets. Later in the afternoon we’ll travel in the support vehicle to Kampi, about 20 km upriver where we can see rare freshwater dolphins swimming around our boat (all meals, hotel room, entry fees, guides, bottled water, bikes, fuel and car hire included).

Day 5 – We’ll ride past Kampi to Wat Sar Sar Mou Roi (100 Column Temple). There is a centre nearby for conservation of the rare Mekong turtle which we’ll also visit. From here we’ll backtrack a little and take the main road to Stung Treng. On arrival we’ll visit Mekong Blue, where you can see all stages of silk production, and buy some of their products if you like them (all meals, hotel room, entry fees, guides, bottled water, bikes, fuel and car hire included).

Day 6 – Travel down the Sekong River by ferry, cross the Mekong then to Preah Vihear Province (all meals, hotel room, entry fees, guides, bottled water, bikes, fuel and car hire included).

Day 7 – Travel to Preah Vihear Temple, high in the Damrek Mountains on the Thai border. Travel up to the temple by 4wd then return to Sra Em and spend the night at the guesthouse (all meals, hotel room, entry fees, guides, bottled water, bikes, fuel and car hire included).

Day 8 – Travel to Anlong Veng. This is an interesting place to look around, mainly for the Khmer Rouge history. Pol Pot’s grave is here, and some well preserved buildings from that era (all meals, hotel room, entry fees, guides, bottled water, bikes, fuel and car hire included).

Day 9 – Travel to Siem Reap, stopping at the Landmine Museum along the way. We’ll also stop at Kbal Spean on the way, to see the carvings in the riverbed. In the evening, we can climb Phnom Bakheng, near Angkor Wat to see the sunset. This will be the last day on the bikes, after we reach Siem Reap we'll use tuk tuks (all meals, hotel room, entry fees, guides, bottled water, bikes, fuel, tuk tuk and car hire included).

Day 10 – Travel to Angkor Wat by tuk tuk to spend the day exploring the temples and artifacts. This is the last day of the tour, so we will have a celebration dinner at one of the restaurants in Pub Street (all meals, hotel room, entry fees, guides, bottled water, and tuk tuk hire included).
