DAY 1: DURBAN – DUNDEE
We make an early start and head inland towards South Africa's famous battlegrounds - more battles were fought in this remote area of KwaZulu-Natal than anywhere else in South Africa. Our Battlefield guides will have you hanging on every word as they recount the 1879 battle of Isandlwana, where 24 000 Zulu 'impis' took on the firepower of the British troops, and eliminated almost an entire regiment in less than an hour. Then it's on to Fugitive's Drift, where all those who fled the Isandlwana battlefield that fateful day were killed.
Next we visit Rourke's Drift, where a handful of British soldiers (outnumbered 35 to 1) fought off 4000 Zulu's for 12 hours. This battle saw 11 Victoria Crosses awarded, which is historically more than in any other engagement. Return to a charming guesthouse for warm, country hospitality and a delicious dinner. Accommodation at: Luxury Guest House, Dundee – dinner, bed and breakfast basis
DAY 2 – DUNDEE – BLOOD RIVER
After breakfast we drive to Blood River where the Afrikaner pioneers on 16 December 1838 (The day of the Vow) fought a famous battle against the Zulus. You will view a video presentation and then go to the battle site. Bronze wagons in a circle substitute the ox wagons that famous day when 466 men fought off 30,000 Zulus.
Proceed to Paul Pietersburg where we overnight at the Natal Spa, a hotel with hot springs!! Bring swimming gear along. Dinner included.
Day 3: SPIOENKP MOUNTAIN
After a traditional South African breakfast we travel to the summit of Spioenkop Mountain. From here your guide will recreate the tragic battle between Boer and British soldiers, which unfolded over nine days in 1900. Incredibly, both Winston Churchill (then a reporter) and Mohandas Gandhi (a stretcher-bearer) witnessed the battle.
We take our leave of these battlefields chronicles and travel to Durban, arriving in the late afternoon for drop off at your hotel or Durban's King Shaka International Airport
