Tongatapu

 
Tongatapu Tongatapu is the largest island in the Kingdom of Tonga. It is home to two thirds of its people. A roughly triangular shaped island measures about 34 km across from west to east. Most of the island is less than 17 meters above sea level. The capital Nukualofa, is a slow paced city of about 30,000 inhabitants. The archeological site of Haamonga is very impressive and should not be missed. Mua is a good place from where to see it. The island is an area of raised reef limestone on a deep base of volcanic sedimentary rock. The low northern cost is a reef platform, in places up to 200 meters in width. The high windward side of the eastern coast is known as lilu has a narrow reef ledge varying in height from 6 to 46 m...

Vava'u island Well Vava'u is one of the most beautiful islands in Tonga. People are friendly and thats why its called the friend islands. You can get the best sea food and any others of ur desier. Ron Cherry is one of the most famous chefs there. He has cooked for the King Taufaha Tupou fa. He use to have his own restaurant in Neiafu Vava'u. Beautiful dinner and a Tongan dancing. You cant get better than that. Vava'u is one of the most wonderful islands there. Paradise Hotel over look the habour. You can watch a sailboat sail into the habour and even watch the sunset from your room. Its beautiful. I have been there and its one of the most remarkable experiences that I have ever had....

Eastern Tongatapu This one's for the history buffs, with what must be the largest concentration of archaeological sites anywhere in the Pacific. Pyramidal stone tombs at Mu'a were traditionally used for burying royalty, and there are 28 at Mu'a. The most impressive burial site is at Paepae 'o Tele'a. One of Polynesia's most intriguing monuments stands at the eastern tip of Tongatapu: the Ha'amonga'a Maui Trilithon. This trilithon, constructed at the turn of the 13th century under Tu'itatui, has some mystery to it; the sun rises and sets in perfect alignment with the clearings at winter solstice. ...

Lake Lanotoo Also known as Goldfish Lake, Lake Lanoto'o is an eerie, pea-green crater lake full of wild goldfish (and leeches). It's a great place for a swim, but a little spooky because of alternating warm and cold currents, and the fact that the bottom of the lake has never been found. Very few visitors ever see this lovely and unusual spot. During the German occupation of Samoa it was a popular picnicking spot. Cavalcades of parasol-shaded young women were escorted to Lake Lanoto'o by German soldiers or courtly Europeans doing the wooing thing.
