Togoville

Togoville On the northern banks of Lake Togo, Togovilles chief drawcard is its history. It was from here that voodoo practitioners were taken as slaves to Haiti. It was also in Togoville that chief Mlapa III signed a peace treaty that gave the Germans rights over all of Togo. Today, the only attractions are the chief's house, the church and the Artisanal, an art co-operative consisting of several buildings with artisans working in each. The nearby church has some beautiful stained-glass windows and pictures of the gruesome deaths of famous African martyrs. ...

Lome

Lome Before the countrys political troubles of the 1990s, Lom was the pearl of West Africa. Nearly everyone who swept through the region stopped in Lom for a few days at the beach. French and Germans would flock in during the winter, living it up in the city's five-star hotels and fine restaurants. But travellers are fairly scarce these days, and many businesses are just getting by. Though a few hotels still do a brisk business, most tourist facilities now bide their time in a semi-deserted ambience. There are a few Internet cafe opening up in Lom with cheap and reliable connections. ...

Kara

Kara Kara is quite a pleasant town, but that's probably not why you are here. It's the beauty of the area that brings you up north. Mont Kabye and Tamberma offer great hiking. The villages of the Tamberma are very beautiful, their castle-like houses are the major attraction. While you are in Kara enjoy the fact that it offers some good accommodation possibilities, a lot more restaurants than the scenic hills around and nightlife. ...

Aneho

Aneho An easy 45 kilometer ride from Lome brings you to Aneho. Aneho was the capital of Togo until 1920. It is located very close to the border with Benin and if you are going form Lome to Benin it is an ideal place to stop. Aneho offers three things: old buildings dating back to colonial times, great beaches and fishermen at work. The three combined are enough to keep you here for a day or two. In September Glidji just 4 km north of Aneho, has its famous Guin festival which is worth a look, especially if you are interested in Voodoo practices (who isn't). ...
