Myanmar

Myanmar is probably the last undiscovered country in Southeast Asia. With a population of around 48 million peoples and a landsize bigger then France, and a great deal of cultural diversity, it is still very underdeveloped and there is quiet a lot of poverty in the country.

With its harsh political system, Burma was closed to the outside world for a long time, and even now many people don't want to travel to Burma because the dont agree with the current regime and don't want to to support the regime by spending their money their. However tourism helps many local people, for example your guide, driver or hotel staff or small shop owners. These people would have to struggle a lot more if there were no tourists. And we think it is good for these Burmese people to see for themselves what people from the western world are really like.

Well it depends how much time and money you have. The most popular stops are Yangon, Bangan, Inle lake and Mandalay. This is a perfect trip for the first timer. You should take a minimum of 8 days, then you will have enough time to see all the fascinating places. However shorter trips are possible, like 3 days / 2 nights to Yangon or add 1 day and visit Bago - the former capital of the Mon people not too far from Yangon and a beautiful trip trough the countryside to see the rural life of the Burmese people.
If you follow our advice and take an 8 day trip you would stop first in Yangon what is the capital city. There you would visit the Shwedagon Pagoda which is most probably the most beautiful temple in South East Asia.

From Yangon you would make your way to Bagan. Bagan has hundreds of temples and pagodas which were abandoned a long time ago. The temples and pagodas range from very small to massive sizes.

Then there is Mandalay - many say the most Burmese city. Mandaly was the capital before the British colonized Burma and was and still is a very cultural, historic and religouis town.

Then there is Inle Lake, a 22 km long and 11 km wide lake. This is a very scenic place and a must for alll photographers with it s natural beauty and rural villages. As well there are some floating villages which are unique to the region. Inle Lake is the home of many different hilltribe people and the Shan people. It is a great place if you have a few days for trekking.

Then there are some beautiful beaches - with no jet skis and no crowds yet. For example on NgaPali Beach there are only a handful hotels are this beautiful several kilometer beach.

Or if you are really adventurous discover the Mergui Archipelago with it's more than 800 islands. There are some great diving places and we can arrange a boat for you which you can live on and discover all the islands with your Burmese crew. You might by the first foreigner visiting ome of thes islands - this area has only recently been opened for foreign tourists.

Burma has the same seasons as Thailand and from June to September their can be a lot of rain. However Bagan has a very dry climate and there is hardly any rain in the rainy season. So, in Burma there are places to visit all year round.
