Grand Etang National Park

Grand Etang National Park In Grenadas central highlands, this park is centered on the Grand Etang Lake, a crater lake that's also the starting point for several walking trails into the lush surrounding forest. They range from 30-minute ambles to 10-hour slogs; the visitor center by the lake can arrange guides for longer hikes. ...

Grenada

Grenada Just south of St. Andrews, Grenada's main claim to fame is the American intervention in the early 1980s. Those days of turmoil are far behind us now and we can start to appreciate the island for what it is: one of the greatest holiday spots on the planet. Apart from all your lazy days bumming on the beach and or snorkeling, a visit to the island should include a tour to the Grand turk and the crater lake, the rum distillery, Caribs leap, Sioux Falls and a spice factory. It is possible to see of all of the above in just one day starting from St. Georges, but you might as well take your time; that's what the locals do too. Excursions to Carriacou and Krk island are worth the extra effort. Petit martinique offers t...

Carriacou

Carriacou Carriacou is the most southerly of the Grenadines, situated 20 miles north of Grenada, latitude 12,5 degrees. It has an area of 13 square miles and is the largest of the chain of islands between Grenada and St. Vincent. The first settlers, the Amerindians appropriately referred to Carriacou as the 'Land of Reefs'. The surrounding waters teem with a variety of marine life, creating the perfect underwater experience. Carriacou was settled by the French, but in 1763 was ceded with Grenada to the British. The majority of the inhabitants today are of African descent, with the influence in the island mainly British, such as driving on the left, though French names are still noticed, especially in the L'Esterre area. T...

St. Georges

St. Georges The capital of Grenada is an attractive place and it is well worth your while to drag yourself away from the beach for a couple of days. Fort George is the main attraction of the city. It gives you excellent views over the area, especially the horse shoe shaped Carenage with its Christ of Deep Statue and the Cruise ship terminal. At the foot of the fort you find a maze of small streets lined with small shops. For more shopping, head for the Market Square in the centre. For history buffs the Grenada National Museum is worth a visit as is Fort Frederick up on Richmond Hill. An unusual attraction is the traffic policeman on a platform where Scott Street meets Lucas Street. The Anglican Church dating from 18...

Windward

Windward The village of Windward was home to a group of Scottish boatbuilders who settled here in the 19th century. The Scottish names and boatbuilding skills have been passed down through the generations. Many locally built boats from small fishing sloops to large trading schooners are seen in the Carriacou waters. Boat building is still carried out in the traditional way on the beaches but fewer have been built in recent years ...
