Alsace

Alsace The Alsace has been popular with invading armies and tourists alike. Well, we have to admit the area is extremely pretty, the white wines are great and the food is delicious. Strasbourg is the most important city and one of the most beautiful cities of France. Located on the banks of the Rhine just a bridge away from Germany, you will surely appreciate the mixture of French and German styles; Strasbourg combines the best of both worlds. From Strasbourg you can make numerous day trips to visit the smaller towns and cities: Ungersheim, Riquewihr, Colmar. They are all as charming as can be. A drive through the countryside and a stop at some of the castles where you can taste and buy wines directly from the Chate...

Annecy

Annecy The picturesque Annecy, known for its castle that dominates the town, is located at the northern top of Lake Annecy and surrounded by snow-topped mountains. The town often serves as a welcome stop before hiking or skiing activities in the nearby Mont Blanc area or travels to Swiss or Italy. The castle, with its several towers, is a reminder of the glorious structure the military fort must have had when it was constructed in the eleventh century by the Prince of Savoy. Downtown Annecy and the Lake are connected by a canal that winds through the cobbled streets with the red-roofed houses. The terraces are there, the Bridge of the Lovers, the setting sun.... no wonder they call it the Venice of the North. In the old p...

Ceillac

Ceillac This is one of the first villages reached in Queyras. There is a ski resort but it has been kept separate from and above the main village. Sadly for tourists most of the original wooden roofs have been replaced by corrugated iron but the houses, in other respects, still preserve their original characteristics and some of them have sundials, which are one of the 'specialties' of the Queyras area. Flowers are fabulous, both in the area immediately around the village and in the Alpine pastures above....

Corsica

Corsica Although Corsica is still ruled by France, one can hardly deny the Italian atmosphere the island exhales. The island is, except for a few cities on the coasts, such as Ajaccio and Bastia , not densely populated. As a result, Corsica still exists of vast areas of unspoiled scenery. Hence why its inhabitants (round and about a quarter of a million) call it the Island of Beauty to which you can probably only agree when you see the versatile character composed of lakes and snow-capped mountains. Choose for yourself whether you want to visit the olive trees and vineyards, the little white towns in the countryside, see the cultural heritage of Napoleon in Ajaccio or explore the unspoilt snow-capped mountains from central ...

Lyon, the Rhone valley and the French Alps

Lyon, the Rhone valley and the French Alps The region of the Alpes consists of one of the most beautiful mountain areas in the world, the French Alps. The highest mountain of Western Europe, the Mount Blanc is located here - and the good news is you can even go skiing on it, using Chamonix as a base. There are many more skiing resorts in the area that may not have the charm of their Swiss and Austrian counterparts, but they tend to offer better value for money. Alp dHuez is more than just a skiing resort; it is also the mecca for cyclists On its steep slopes many Tour de France has been decided. There are also beautiful cities in the region, like Lyon the metro pole of the south, which has some great museums, roman remains and and some of the best restaurants...

Central France and the Loire Valley

Central France and the Loire Valley Chartres is both an ideal day trip from Paris and a good first step to visit central France. The city itself has one of the most beautiful medieval cathedrals in the world and more wonders of the world are close at hand. The Valley of the roses has higher number of castles per square kilometer than any other region in the world. Drive along the river from Orleans to Tours and you will see them everywhere. Manors, small castles, big castles. Most of them masterpieces of Renaissance art such as Chambord, Usse, Blois or Amboise. Just south of the Loire region, the Limousin on the western slopes of the Massif Central attracts visitors in search of unspoiled countryside. The CorrAze, Creuse and Haute Vienne contain hills...

MontdeMarsan

MontdeMarsan Mont-de-Marsan is a commune of France, prefecture (capital) of the Landes department. The Donjon Lacataye is a the keep of a 14th century castle, constructed by order of Gaston Phebus in the commune of Mont-de-Marsan in the Landes department of France. Today, it houses a museum. La Cataye consists of two joined Romanesque houses, which one sees perfectly while entering the current museum whose central internal wall includes Romanesque windows, a sign that one of the two houses was built before the second. These houses belonged to the Viscount's family and were more or less abandoned starting from the 15th century, when the Viscounts moved away from their town of origin. During the 16th century, their upper parts w...

Loire Valley

Loire Valley The Loire Valley is one of the most spectacular regions of France. Along the Loire river there are a number of castles dating back to the 16-th century that are of great beauty. The rolling hills around them make this area perfect for walking, biking and hiking. The whole area between Orleans and Angers is on the UNESCO list, with the exception of two nuclear reactors. Highlights are the cities of Amboise where you can find the grave of Leonardo Da Vinci, Blois with a chateau designed by the same Leonardo and the Houdin Museum and finally Tours with a very romantic old centre. Some of the finest castles along the river are found in Chambord; a majestic castle in which every room has a fireplace, Cheverny and Uss...
