Lohja Lohja is a city of about 36,000 inhabitants by the Lohjanjrvi lake. The city prides in being famous for its apples and appletrees can indeed be found in almost every garden. It is the nature that surrounds the centre that makes Lohja an appealing summer destination. The lake is the biggest one in Southern Finland and a popular leisure destination - whenever the Finnish summer allows it, the beaches are full of sun bathers and children. The city centre has all the amenities and shops needed but it is not an ideal shopping location per se. The capital of Finland, Helsinki, is only 60 kilometers away and buses run regularly. Aland Island The Aland Islands group, comprising over 6000 islands, is located in the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Finland. The main language is Swedish, dating back from the 13th century when the islands still belonged to the King of Sweden. At the beginning of the 19th century, Aland was claimed by Russia and it was not until 1921 that it was restored to its Scandinavian 'owner' again, it this instant, Finland. Espoo Espoo is Finlands second largest city and quite original in urban structure. The city consists of five district centres, all of them as large as a normal Finnish town, connected perfectly by public transport to one another and to Nuuksio National Park and the green countryside. One of the best known districts is probably Tapiola, the carefully designed garden city, in which inhabitants, nature and architecture are in harmony with each other.
