Cayman Island

Cayman Island The Caymans have one of the highest living standards in the world with a GDP/capita of some 70,000 dollars. This is mostly due to their position as a major financial centre - and then there is tourism too. The islands, located just south of Cuba attract one million visitors every year. The largest island, Grand Cayman is just eight miles wide and twenty miles long... Supposing you come to tan and not to whitewash, the Caymans offer terrific diving, white beaches, lots of sunshine and classy accommodation and restaurants - they are a bit expensive though. Grand Cayman receives most visitors, with Seven Mile Beach as the main hub. Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are quieter but possibly even more expensive. ...

Grand Cayman

Grand Cayman Grand Cayman is exactly as the name suggests the biggest of the Cayman islands. The capital George Town is located in the West of the island, some 20 km to the est is East End. Between the two you find many resorts and great beaches. The main attractions are Little cayman and the nearby region known as Hell's Gate N.P. because of its moonscape of black lava. The coast is filled with 200-year old lanes and foodpaths where you'll see a catalog of the islands architecture ranging from gingerbread cottages to wattle-and-daub cabins. A must-see attraction is Stingray City. This is a submerged sandbar just off the coast of the isalnd, reachable by one of the many tourist boats that operate excursions on a daily basis....

Little Cayman

Little Cayman Little Cayman is the smallest and least developed of the three Cayman Islands, located 87 miles northeast of Grand Cayman, five miles west of Cayman Brac, 480 miles from Miami and 90 miles south of Havana . First discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1503 and rarely visited (except for the occasional pirate) until recent times, Little Cayman is now a favorite destination of modern day explorers, photographers, naturalists and, of course, divers. The moment you arrive, you'll understand why. The island itself - just 10 miles long and 1 mile wide - is blessed with 22 miles of spectacular coastline and, just offshore, incredible coral reefs teeming with over 150 kinds of coral and more than 500 species of fish. ...

The Hell

The Hell The small town of Hell has a post office where you can mail post cards which are stamped Hell. The jagged black rock formations in Grand Cayman's northwest once inspired a local official to exclaim, 'This is what Hell must look like.' Since then, the local post office has been painted fire-engine red and contains a resident 'devil' who asks 'How the hell are you' as he dispenses souvenirs. Nearby is the government-run Cayman Turtle Farm, the only one of its kind in the world. This operation raises green turtles for purposes benign - increasing their population in the wild - and slightly more base - selling their meat and shells. ...
