Banfora

Banfora Banfora is a city in south western Burkina Faso as fourth largest city by population. Banfora is greener than Bobo – and of course is home to the infamous Banfora Cascades. The town of Banfora is easily Burkina Faso’s biggest tourism center, and there is good reason why. While the town of Banfora itself is quite pleasant, it is the surrounding region that is full of worthy tourism gems. The best part is that all of the places are easy to visit and hassle-free. From waterfalls, to hippos, to the beautiful Sindou Peaks, there’s enough excitement around Banfora to keep you in the area for at the very least a couple days. This town has all the makings of a backpacker’s paradise. Well there isn’t a whole l...

Bobo Dioulasso

Bobo Dioulasso The city of Bobo-Dioulasso is a very relaxed place and a pleasure to spend a few days. It has the same boulevards and interesting market places as the capital but with a more chilled out feel to them and very little hassle even in the Grand March. There are a few interesting sights. Among the major highlights to see is the Muse Provincial du Hout, but without a doubt, the most interesting sight is the Grande Mosque. The old Kibidw district is also a great area to stroll around, where you have to take a guide but it's well worth the experience to see how this side of the city lives and if you're lucky you may well be treated to a performance by some of the musicians who live in the part of the town....

Ouagadougou

Ouagadougou Ouaga, as the capital of Burkina Faso is generally known as the home to the Mossi, the largest ethnic group in the nation. Located in the center of the country the city has wide tree-lined boulevards and several interesting sights including the National Museum of Arts and Craft, the Nouveau Grand Marche and the Moro Naba Palace. All the sights can be easily reached on foot. They are not outstanding, but the atmosphere is relaxed and the Burkinabs are known to be very hospitable and friendly. Ouagadougou's Grande March is also worth a visit however it remains to be rebuilt after a fire ravaged it in 2003. It's in the centre of town and has a number of great stalls upstairs. Unlike many other Western African-Saheli...

Houses are painted by the village women to represent scenes and events in a stylized and colourful manner. The village is in the process of being recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site....

Cascades de Karfiguela

Cascades de Karfiguela The Karfiguela Waterfalls are at their best during and just after the rainy season when, unfortunately, the dirt tracks leading to the falls can be impassable. But, whatever the season, it's worth the journey. From below, you approach the falls through a magnificent avenue of mango trees, and the chaotic jumble of rocks over which the water splays are a sight in themselves. From the waterfalls, you can walk or ride the 2km (1.2mi) to the Dmes de Fabedougou, an escarpment-type formation good for rock climbing. ...
